Gordon Henry Olson, of Cape Canaveral, born May 7, 1927, passed away July 18, 2012.
He was preceded in death by beloved wife, Ann Arnold Olson; parents, Henry and Margaret Olson; and his brother, Donald.
Survived by their three children, Donald Olson and his wife Beth, Nancy King and her husband Phil, and Linda Olson, plus his life long friend and caregiver, Steve Harris. There are four grandchildren, Christy, Andy, Ashley and Tyler, and four great grandchildren, Megan, Morgan, Margaret and Brooks surviving.
Gordon served in the Navy, worked overseas for years and ultimately worked his way to NASA starting in 1962. So many wonderful memories at the most interesting time in history for our family. Gordon retired from NASA in 1979 and moved into private industry associated with the space program. He and Ann started their nationwide motor home travels and finally became frequent ocean cruisers. After total retirement they also summered at a lake cabin in Wisconsin.
There are many professional accomplishments attributed to Gordon over the years. Both in NASA and private industry. Personally in his free time he started the Lassie League (girls softball) for Merritt Island. All of this accomplished while he and Ann were raising their family and helping them raise theirs. His generosity and positive attitude is what everyone will always remember to be his strongest personality traits.
He is now with his beloved wife and they are resting peacefully together. He will be missed by all of us, Dad we love you.
Private services will be held at a later date in Duluth, Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Vitas Hospice, Salvation Army and Disabled Veterans.
