Jack Ross Griffin
October 25, 1929 - April 23, 2002
U.S. Navy Captain, Retired, devoted husband and father. He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years as a Surface Warfare Officer, receiving many personal and unit awards. While serving as Commanding Officer of the USS Mansfield (DD-728), Captain Griffin received the Bronze Medal with Combat "V". Captain Griffin also served as the Commanding Officer of the amphibious ship USS Cook (APD-130), which received the prestigious Arleigh Burke Fleet Trophy Award under his command. He and his shipmates aboard USS Providence (CLG-6), received the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon for exceptionally meritorious service in combat operations against enemy positions in both North and South Vietnam. Upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy, he worked as a pilot for the Panama Canal Commission in Panama for 15 years. He was a proud American hero and a member of the NRA. Love, wife of 59 years, Kathleen; children, Michael, Ross, Kelli, Marianne and Carl; sister, Lettie; 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
