James Robert Akin, born July 16, 1934, deceased February 22, 2013. Jim was born in Aiken, Illinois; parents were Floie Jane Aiken and Robert McLean Aiken.
He attended college at Southern Illinois University where he was active in ROTC, editor in chief of his school newspaper and a member of TEK fraternity. He graduated in 1956, with a BA degree in Journalism. After graduation he joined the Air Force. He served in Korea and the Vietnam War. He was stationed in TX, MS, OK, Japan, CO, FL, Germany and AL. While stationed at PAFB he was part of the Apollo Program. He retired after 23 years of service as Lt. Colonel, and relocated back to Satellite Beach. He then worked for Harris Corporation for 13 years on the FAA program. While working at Harris he completed his Master's Degree at FIT. After his second retirement, he did volunteer work, traveled and loved to fly fish.
Jim is survived by his wife Kay of Satellite Beach, his two daughters Ellen Aiken of Atlanta, GA, Lucy McBride of Sanford, FL, his three grandchildren Aiden and Tatum McBride, and Anna McLean Kagan-Aiken. His parents and brother Bill preceded him in death, but he is also survived by his sister Judy McKee of Wildwood, MO and her three children Kim, David and Dan.
A memorial service will be held at the Satellite Beach UMC on Sunday, March 3 at 2:00 where friends and family will pay tribute to his life.

. His headstone will be placed in the Charlton family plot in Hollis, OK, where his wife plans to rest beside him.
