James Evans Byars, 89, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013.
Jim was born in Nashville, Arkansas, and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Mary, late last year. He is survived by his sons, Duane of Indialantic, FL and Keith of Jacksonville, FL; and grandchildren, Jeffery and Michelle.
He joined the Marines at an early age and served his country during the WWII conflict. It was there that he began his career in aircraft operations and aerospace that included contributions to the Lunar Module Apollo Program with Grumman and later, as a member of the quality control team supporting the space shuttle.
Jim was a long time member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Indialantic, a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5845 and past Grand Knight.
A gathering will be held at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Indialantic, FL on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM. Inurnment with full military honors will follow in the Holy Name of Jesus Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the many worthwhile Knights of Columbus charitable events.
