Jim Gladden

Merritt Island, FL

Long time Merritt Island resident Jim Gladden, 66, passed away in his sleep Wednesday morning, June 23, 2014. His passing was a sad and unexpected event. James Ralph Gladden Jr. entered the US Air Force and served a tour in Vietnam at Da Nang AFB, and then he was assigned to Patrick AFB where he met his wife-to-be, Valerie.

Jim attended Brevard Community College and completed his degree in film at FTU. Career-wise, Jim worked in sales before joining the Postal Service as a mail carrier. He put in 26 years, retiring five years ago. When he wasn't helping charities at the post office or working on his '77 Corvette, Jim often found the time over the years to help area seniors with their problems. He also worked on several film and video projects and enjoyed a lifetime love of photography. Jim is survived by his wife Valerie, and his dog, Piper.

A memorial reception in Jim's honor is slated for 2 p.m., Sunday, August 3rd at Brevard Veteran's Memorial Park, 400 S. Sykes Creek Pkwy, Merritt Island.
