John R. Davis, 94, of Titusville, FL, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 5, 2014. John was born April 2, 1920 to Alice (Cirgin) and Sylvester Davis in Bloomington, IN, one of six children. He is survived by his younger brother, Joe Davis, of Bloomington, IN.

John married his 'first love' Dorothy (Lake) in 1941 and they were together 20 years until her death in 1961. In 1962, John married his 'last love', Ruth (Smith) Gill and they were married 33 years until her death in 1995. John was a WWII veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Navy in November 1942 and serving until December 1945. He participated in the Invasion of Normandy on D-Day and finished his war service in the Pacific theater. After the war John attended Indiana University from 1946 to 1950 receiving his BA Degree. In 1962 John moved the family to Central Florida, settling first in Maitland and ultimately, Titusville. He loved fishing and always had some woodworking project in progress in his garage.

John is survived by his daughter, Brenda Jill (Holstine) of Plainville, IN; son, Jeffrey of Chuluota, FL; son, Jan of Casselberry, FL; and daughter, Carolyn (Gill) Hayes of Palmer, AK. John has five grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. His strong spirit and good humor will be sorely missed.

Arrangements are with North Brevard Funeral Home and Crematory. You may leave condolences for John's family at www.northbrevardfuneralhome.com. John's ashes will be returned to his home state of Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the Alzheimers Foundation or .
