John Wesley Wood
John Wesley Wood, 86 went home to be with the Lord Wednesday September 18, 2013
He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on January 12, 1927. He was the son of Henry Leslie "Buck" Wood and Mildred Riddell Wood. He loved the Lord.
Mr. Wood served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He started his career with NASA in 1958 at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL and transferred to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in January, 1968. He worked on the Gemini, Mercury, Apollo, and Space Shuttle programs. He retired from NASA in 1986.
He enjoyed playing Bluegrass music on the acoustical rhythm guitar and could always be found pickin' on the weekends. Most recently he played with his fellow bluegrass musicians at Fox Lake Park on Saturday afternoons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh_jFqXqQAg
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Mae Helen Wood, his sister Evelyn Valeria Wood Harrison, daughter Sharon Caldwell and granddaughter Cynthia Caldwell.
Mr. Wood is survived by his daughters Wanda Wood of England, Nancy (Roger) Rowan of Daytona Beach, FL, Jennifer (Ronnie) Best of Titusville, FL; grandchildren Dennis Caldwell (Linda), Rory Rowan, Rhianon Rowan, Kendra Best , Brooke Best and great granddaughter Khloie Caldwell.
Calling hours are 6:00-8:00PM Wednesday September 25, 2013 at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home. Services are 10AM Thursday, September 26, 2012 at the funeral home chapel followed by interment at Brevard Memorial Park.
