John Thomas Yancey Jr., passed away March 22, 2014, Leesburg, Florida.
He was born September 28, 1933 in Plant City, Florida. John proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated in 1958 from the University of Florida, with a Masters in engineering. He loved all UF Athletics. He worked with Boeing in Seattle and Huntsville, Alabama, before going to Boeing at the Kennedy Space Center. There he worked on the Lunar Rover, the Alaskan Pipe Line, the Space Shuttle and many other projects. In September of 1990, he was awarded the Silver Snoopy Award for his work on the Space Shuttle. John retired from Boeing in October of 1993 and moved to Pennbrooke community in September of 1995, where he lived the rest of his years and was very active enjoying bridge, softball, tennis, and shuffleboard.
He is survived by his son, John Thomas (Teresa) Yancey III, Windermere, Florida; his daughter Pam (Richard) Dean, Apopka, Florida; grandchildren, Joshua, Marisa, Alayna, Ethan, Jesse, Ashley, Rachel, and Rebekah; his great-grandsdaughter, Peyton; son-in-law, Tommy Thomas, Cocoa, Florida; his brother, Jim Yancey, Ocala, Florida; and other extended family.
John is predeceased by his daughter, Kim Thomas, who passed away in 2013.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, March 27, 2014, between 5-7PM at Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, Florida. Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10:30AM a Funeral Service will take place at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service including Military Honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. Online condolences may be left at www.beyersfuneralhome.com.
