Joseph Henry Markowski, Jr., 86, passed peacefully on November 30, 2012. He was born and raised in Toledo, OH on December 3, 1925 to Joseph Henry and Hattie Swiatloski Markowski, Sr. He attended Woodward High School, class of 1944.

His family includes his wife of 62 years, Patricia; daughter, Sharon (Mike Sanders) Markowski a business owner in Memphis, TN; brother, Mark Adams; sister, Susie Brunneman; granddaughters, Stacy (Scott) Strickland and Amanda Markowski; great granddaughters, Trista and Riley Strickland.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Markowski who was a canine handler for the Melbourne Police Department; and sister, Florence Zielinski.

He was a proud father whose grandchildren gave him great joy and he was able and lucky to spend four years with his great grandchildren.

He enlisted in the Marine Corps November of 1943, serving as a Sergeant in the South Pacific, including Saipan and Tinian. He met his wife who was an RN and they were married July 1, 1950.

Joseph attended the University of Toledo and studied design engineering. In the mid 1950's he relocated to Sarasota and worked for Delco Autolite. The family came to the Space Coast in 1966 where he was a member of the Apollo Missions. At the end of those projects, he became an agent for John Hancock Insurance, retiring in the early 1980's. After retirement, he enjoyed meeting and greeting guests as a host at Wendy's on Babcock Street.

Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 S. Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. United States Marine Honors will be accorded at 6:30 pm.

If the Army and Navy ever look on heaven's scenes they will find the streets are guarded by the United States Marines Semper Fidelis.
