John died unexpectedly at his home in Palm Bay on the 15th of February, 2013. Although born in Brush Creek, Tennessee on the 4th of October, 1930, he left there as a small boy and spent his formative years mostly in California.
Joining the United States Air Force on his 17th birthday, he then spent his next 26 years traveling the world with the Military to places like Italy, Spain, Holland, France, Garmisch, Amsterdam, Thailand and Okinawa; while stationed in places such as Germany and Japan. After retiring his travels still continued throughout 49 of the 50 United States, but he and his wife of 63 years (Olga Hunt) had called Florida home since 1979.
As a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he earned several medals and top honors, including two Silver Stars, three Bronze Stars, several Good Conduct Medals, the Air Force Commendation Medal, a Civil Action Unit Citation, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; along with several Campaign Stars and Oak Leaf Clusters. He served his Country with distinction and received many other commendations for his dedication and bravery. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Air Force never left him, his friends and family can attest, as he spent the remainder of his working career in Law Enforcement.
John and Olga raised their family of five girls with the same discipline and ethics he learned in the Military, but always tempered with love. Realizing that strong family bonds would help to strive in all aspects of life they reinforced that by keeping their family close always.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Glenda Hunt, Joni Sanford, Sheri Patterson, Tomi Jo Iglesias and Amanda Hunt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and John- Francis Taylor Hunt; as well as his cherished wife, Olga.
Memorial Services will be held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church at 300 Malabar Road Southeast in Palm Bay, Florida, 32907 on the 22nd of February 2013 at 2:00 PM.
Donations may be made to Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home at 1010 East Palmetto Avenue in Melbourne, Florida, 32901.
