Majorie Johnston Obituary

Marjorie Johnston, devoted wife of Stanley (Jack) Johnston, beloved mother, adoring grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2013, in Melbourne Florida. At the time of her death, she and Jack were married 62 years. She is survived by her children, Susan (Tom) Saewert, Charles (Linda) Johnston, Becky Johnston, and Amy (Chris) Peters. She had eight spirited grandchildren who loved her dearly, and six great-grand children.

Marge (called Maggie by family and friends), was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 7, 1929. She attended McKenzie High School in Detroit. She graduated from Michigan State University in 1950, the same year she married Jack Johnston, who, on their first date told her, "You're the girl I'm going to marry."

Marge and Jack settled in South Haven Michigan, where Marge taught Home Economics at South Haven High School. After retiring from teaching to raise her growing family of four children, Marge played an active role in the South Haven school system, becoming School Board President from 1972 to 1978.

Maggie saw the best in everyone and everything. She was a strong, loving wife, a selfless and nurturing mother. She dedicated herself completely to others. She will be remembered and treasured for her kindness, her patience, her tolerance and her generosity. She was always ready to lift a spirit, to listen and comfort, to make all who knew her feel understood and loved. Those who loved her will also remember her great sense of humor and her love of fun. When adventure called, Maggie picked up the phone.

She loved golf, bridge, Bible study, playing the piano and singing at the top of her lungs. She loved cooking and she loved endless hours of play with her grand- children. But most of all, Maggie loved life.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2013, at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 North Wickham Road, Melbourne Florida, 32940.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Haven For Children: PO Box 327, Melbourne, Florida, 32902. 321-676-6888.
