The passing of Raymond Winstead on November 10, 2012, is mourned by his family and friends. It was only two short weeks ago that his wife of almost 63 years went to be with the Lord. Our sadness is profound and our loss is devastating, but we know that he is joyful. Our father was not only a leader, he taught us at a very young age the importance of being a Christian, and that is what is sustaining us.

Simply put, Ray Winstead was a giver. He would do anything for someone in need, including cooking barbeque for everything from fundraisers to "Cracker Day" in Titusville. Ray was extremely community minded and he was involved in many organizations and efforts in Titusville. He was a past president of the Titusville Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a past member of The First Presbyterian Church of Titusville, where he was an elder and Chairman of the Building Committee. He was on the Parrish Medical Center Foundation Board and could remember a time when there was no hospital in Titusville. Additionally, he was a 32nd Degree Mason and a charter member of the Shriners International.

Ray moved to Titusville after the death of his father-in-law to assume a position in the family business: Bryan, Conway & Winstead Realtors and Insurance Agency. Imbued with a strong sense of civic duty, he decided to run for political office. In the mid-seventies he became Clerk of the Circuit Court for Brevard County. Ray loved his job and the people he worked with; there was not a week that went by when he did not mention someone within the court system. He enjoyed seeing so many of his friends a few weeks ago while he was in Titusville. His family also had the joy of listening to old stories that he was moved to tell after that visit. We feel so blessed that he had that time to say goodbye to a community he loved.

Raymond was born in Jacksonville, Florida on September 28, 1927, and was the son of Ethel and Raymond Winstead, Sr. He attended Robert E. Lee High School and the University of Florida, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

Raymond was predeceased by his wife, Constance, and son, Bryan Edward. Left to celebrate his life are: daughter, Cheryl W. Lentz (Carl W.); son, Karl Franklin Winstead (Lynn); daughter, Emma Louise Winstead; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Frances Gail Winstead.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to Jess Parrish Medical Foundation.
