Robert E. Delaney

Melbourne, FL

Robert E. Delaney, 80, of Melbourne, passed away on March 12, 2014.

He was born in Jersey City, New Jersey to loving parents, the late Harry and Mary (Keating) Delaney on January 19, 1934. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1954 - 1957 and received an Honorable Discharge. He was with the New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police from 1960 - 1982 then joined as a Deputy Sherriff of Monroe County from 1982 - 1992, a.k.a. Robert "Junk Yard Dog" Delaney. He was named Officer of the Year in 1992. Moving to Brevard County, he was a member of Ascension Catholic Church.

Robert leaves memories to be cherished by his loving wife Martha of 55 years, his children, Robert (Jennifer), Kathleen (Donald), Shawn (Nichole), Gail (Kenneth) and Francis (Tara); 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by Francis X., and Harry and John Delaney.

A celebration of life was on Saturday March 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Davis Seawinds Funeral home, Melbourne, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family would like contributions made in his name to MPN Research Foundation (formerly MPD Foundation) at www.mpnresearchfoundation.org.
