Roland D. Brown, Jr.
Roland D. Brown, Jr., 90, passed away at his daughter's home in Rockledge, FL on Saturday, July 28, 2014 with Hospice of St. Francis.
Roland, or 'Buster' as some knew him, was born in Flint, MI on February 06, 1924. He was a resident of Niantic, CT for 35 years before moving to Titusville. Roland had a distinguished and decorated military career. He served in World War II with the 8th Army Air Force 392nd Bomb group flying out of Wendling, England. He also served in Korea with the Army 745th Artillery Unit as a forward observer. After Korea, Roland served with the CT and FL National Guard and retired from the military after 33 years at the rank of Captain. Roland worked as a project engineer on the construction of highways and bridges in the state of CT. He was a charter member of the VFW Kari-Hill Post in Niantic, CT and an active member of the American Legion. In addition, he was a lifetime member of the Masons.
Roland passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, longtime companion, Annemarie Keough; his daughter, Kathleen Schmitz and her husband John W. Schmitz, Jr.; his son, R. Daniel Brown III and his wife Jody (Hill) Lee-Brown; Roland's former wife and friend, Joyce (Brown) Flaherty; his grandchildren, Amy and Joe Tucker, Kristie and James Tilton, Daniel and Anna Brown, Karen Brown and Chris Hare, and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Will Tucker, Alex and Alana Tilton, Trenton Connors and Brady Michael Brown.
There will be a private family burial in Titusville.
