Ruth Lewis Davies, 85, long time resident of Rockledge, Florida, peacefully went to Heaven on August 3, 2012. Born in Tampa, Florida on August 10, 1926, to Edgar Banks Lewis, Jr. and Eva Newsom Lewis, she was a third generation Floridian. Although she and her five siblings were raised during the Depression, she was thankful for having grown up in a loving, Christian home.
When she was 13, Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and became very active in the church. She taught a children's Sunday School class, sang in the choir, played piano for many church services and learned to play the pipe organ.
Ruth worked part-time with her loving, affectionate father in his bakery from the age of 11 until she graduated from Hillsborough High School. She was accepted at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and had hoped to pursue a career in music, but was not able to obtain adequate funding to attend at that time. Instead, she began working full-time at the bakery. From the ages of 24 to 27, she worked as a secretary for the Atlantic Coast Line, then moved to Atlanta to work for a psychologist.
In June of 1956, Ruth moved to Brevard County and went to work for RCA at PAFB. By then, she had decided to pursue a career as a pediatrician and was laying the groundwork to enter the University of Florida. However, her plans changed when she met Dan Davies in August 1956. He swept her off her feet and they were married on December 29, 1956.
Dan and Ruth had four children together. When Ruth was 41, she pursued her Bachelor's degree in Accounting. After working for a short time at Dan's office, she became a Certified Public Accountant. Ruth later became a Registered Real Estate Broker and continued to manage 15-20 condos for more than 35 years.
Throughout her life, Ruth was an active member of her church. She was an avid bridge player and loved shopping and traveling with her family. She was always ready for the next adventure. Ruth had a deep, abiding love for her family and friends and was extremely thoughtful and supportive of others. She was a beautiful, loving woman and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two of her brothers, Frank and Randolph Lewis.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Dan R. Davies; her four children, Cynthia Davies Aebli of Orlando, Richard M. Davies (Michelle) of Viera, Yvonne Davies Gaj (Mitchell) of Oviedo, and Kathleen Davies of Orlando/Rockledge. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Colin, Kristin, Ashley, Kevin and Aidan, and three siblings, Martha Schulteis of Kansas, Edna LeGrow of Arkansas and George Lewis of Merritt Island, FL.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Cocoa, 750 Brevard Avenue, Cocoa, FL. Visitation with the family will be immediately prior to the service, at 1:00 p.m.
