DR. BILL CAIN, 88, of Amelia Island, Fla., passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at Shands Medical Center, Jacksonville, Fla. Born Sept. 21, 1924, in South Bend, Ind., he was the son of the late Orley and Myrna Cain. He was a graduate of LaFontaine High School class of 1942. After high school, Dr. Cain attended Indiana University before being drafted in the United States Army, serving in Northern France and Rhineland in the 3rd Army ETO during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1946, Dr. Cain re-entered Indiana University where he graduated from the School of Dentistry in 1952. He practiced in the dental field in New Haven and Fort Wayne, retiring in 1988. He leaves behind his wife of 14 years, Katherine Hoffman Mixson Cain of Amelia Island; children, Jennifer Jackson of Leesburg, Ind., Joseph Cain (Janet) of Syracuse Ind., Jeri Lee (Bill) of Maple City, Mich., James C. Cane of Spring, Texas, John C. Cain of Chiefland, Fla., and Jean C. Clous (Brian) of Traverse City, Mich.; one sister, Betty Ferguson of Larwill, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Betty Jean Short, in 1995. "The family would like to thank the hospital staff of Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville for their kindness and caring manner in attending to Dr. Cain."
