CARL W. DABLER SR., 84, of Westler Lake, Wolcottville, died on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at his daughter's home in Elders burg, Md. Born Dec. 27, 1928, in Hardin County, Ohio, he was a son of Henry J. and Ilo (Crowe) Dabler. He was a retired train conductor for Conrail. He moved to the area from Fort Wayne in 1983. He was a Korean War veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the LaGrange American Legion Post 215 and the Kendallville V.F.W. Post 2749. He married Evelyn M. Ferrall on Oct. 20, 1951, in Edgefield, S.C.; she was preceded in death on Dec. 26, 1994. Surviving him are a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Gregory Madison of Eldersburg, Md.; four grandchildren, Danielle Nicole Dabler, Zachary Wayne Madison, Megan Elizabeth Madison, and Johnathon Christoper Madison; a sister, Mary Stephens of Utah; and a brother, Leigh Allen Dabler of California. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Carl Jr. and Gregory Wayne, in 1994. Memorial service is 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Frurip-May Funeral Home, 309 West Michigan St., LaGrange, Ind., with visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. A celebration open house to honor and reminisce about Carl's life begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at American Legion Post 215, LaGrange. All are welcome to stop by and meet with his family.
