DAN R. KIRKENDALL, 71, of Decatur, passed away 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013 at his residence. Born March 10, 1941 in Indianapolis, Ind. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965. He married Carolyn R. Ontrop on July 8, 1978 in Portland, Ind. He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville where he was a former Eucharist minister. He was a graduate of Western High School in Russiaville, Ind. and a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture and a Masters in Education. He retired in January of 2004 as a teacher with the Diocese of Fort Wayne - South Bend with twenty years of service. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn R. Kirkendall of Decatur; daughter, Sarah R. Kirkendall of Kalamazoo, Mich.; sister, Marcia L. (George) Penry of Greenfield, Ind.; brother, Greg Duncan of Sharpsville, Ind. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Snyder. Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 at St. Rose Catholic Church with a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, jacobs Chapel, Monroeville. Fr. Joseph D'Souza officiating. Visitation from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday with a Rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery.
