DONALD RAY "DON" KOONCE, of Apache Junction, Ariz., passed away on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013. Born July 5, 1925, in Albion, Ill., he served in the United States Army in the Asiatic Pacific with the 7th Infantry Division, in the 1st Army Air Force Depot on Okinawa, and Japan and Germany from 1943 to 1946, becoming a Corporal, earning an American Theater Ribbon, an Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, a Victory Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, an Army Occupation Medal (Germany and Japan) and a Philippine Liberation with one Bronze Service Star. He re-enlisted in the Army and served as a Corporal from 1948 to 1952. He worked as a commercial photographer at A G S & R in Fort Wayne until 1978 and in the photography department at Arizona State University and Mesa Community College. He is survived by one sister, Dorothea Lebrecht of Indiana; two sons, Daniel Koonce and David Koonce, both of Indiana; one daughter, Sondra Powell of Arizona; three stepdaughters, Gabriella Rousseau of Arizona, Marianne Richards of Washington and Rita Smith Indiana; one stepson, Leslie Gondos of California; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Private graveside service is 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa Ariz.
