GERALD MICHAEL "MIKE" KOHNE, 77, of Decatur, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital. Born April 2, 1936, he was a son of the late Dr. Gerald Joseph and Margaret Elizabeth (Sheley) Kohne. On Sept. 11, 1965, he married Bonnie L. Hake. Mike was the owner of Decatur Package Liquors for 30 years, and he also worked for nine years at the Bob Heller Insurance Agency. He was a 1954 graduate of Decatur Catholic High School and a 1962 graduate of the University of Notre Dame. He served his country in the United States Army. Mike was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Msgr. J.J. Seimetz Council 864. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 43, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 993, and the Moose Lodge 1311. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bonnie L. Kohne of Decatur; a son, Gerald Matthew "Matt" (Renee) Kohne of Decatur; three daughters, Nancy S. (Matthew) Bane of Chattanooga, Tenn., Sara E. Kohne of Greenwood, Ind. and Andrea R. (Jon) Weiss of Granger, Ind.; a brother, Anthony E. Kohne of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Marjorie A. DeRosa of Angola and Kathleen S. (David) Smith of Old Saybrook, Conn.; and five grandchildren, Heather (Zachary) Stoppenhagen, Gerald Ryan Kohne, Lillian S. Weiss, Samuel T. Weiss, and Evelyn R. Weiss. He was preceded in death by a son, Mark Joseph Kohne; and two sisters, Dorothy J. Kohne and Elizabeth Kohne. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. in the St. Mary's Parish Hall. Father David Voors officiating. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Burial in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military graveside rites by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
