GREGORY L. DRAKE, 62, of Berne, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at his home after a year-long battle with cancer. Born June 20, 1951, in Adams County, Ind., he was a son of Max and Virginia (Heller) Drake. He married Kathi Rich on June 2, 1973. He was a graduate of South Adams High School in 1969 and the University of Indianapolis in 1973. He served the community of Berne for 39 years as a State Farm agent. Gregg was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, in Berne, where he sang in the choir and served on various committees. Gregg served on the Adams County Health Board and was a member of Berne Rotary. He served as a Democratic Precinct Committeeman and was involved in local politics. His special interests included spending time with his family, traveling, snow skiing, and watching Indiana University sports. He is survived by his wife, Kathi Drake of Berne; a son, Adam (fiancé, Christina DeGrood) Drake of Stamford, Conn.; a daughter, Alison (Matthew) Mishler of La Vista, Neb.; a grandson, Drake Mishler of La Vista, Neb.; and father, Max Drake of Berne. He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Drake. Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Berne, with calling one hour prior to service. The Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Family and friends will also be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne. Burial in M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne. Preferred memorials to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana; Trinity United Methodist Church; or The Adams County Community Foundation Angel Fund for Cancer.
