HULDA (RAMSEY) HURSH-THORNBURG, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at home. Born Dec. 17, 1919, in Churu busco, she was a daughter of Aria and Orval Ramsey. She was known for being the star player on the high school girls' basketball team in Churubusco. She lived there until marrying Charles W. Hursh on Jan. 2, 1937; he preceded her in death. She then married Ralph Thornburg; he also preceded her in death. Hulda took classes at Ohio State University, modeled at local department stores, and typed students' papers while her husband completed his DO degree in 1940. After living in Rochester, N.Y., they settled in Goshen, Ind. where they raised their three children, Anita Cast (William) of Fort Wayne, Stanley (Bud) Hursh (Mary) of Syracuse and Georgia (Loni) Zeichner of Sarasota, Fla. While living in Goshen, Hulda was an active community volunteer in Psi Iota Psi sorority, Camp Fire Girls, Goshen Community Schools, Community Chest, and North Central Optometric Society Auxiliary, where she served as President. She also managed her husband's optometric office for many years after managing Harter's Sporting Goods Store. She was an avid gardener, cook and seamstress. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Carter, Jennifer, and Meghan Cast, Jeremy and Jeffrey Zeichner, and John and Bradley Hursh; and nine great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her three siblings, Orval Ramsey, Wanda Chapman and Edna Shroyer. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, in Trinity Episcopal Church, Fort Wayne, with calling from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church parlor. Burial in Perry Township Cemetery.
