JAMES E. HOPPEL, 89, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, at Sycamore Village, Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, James was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and work ed as a Tool and Die Maker with General Electric for 42 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church and the Apprentice Alumni Club. He also was a Boy Sout leader for many years and enjoyed fishing, tinkering in the garage and volunteered building ramps for Turnstone. Surviving are his wife, Maxine Hoppel of Fort Wayne; daughter, Barb (Kent) Weber of Huntertown; son, James C. (Dr. Cindy Bigler) Hoppel of Carmel, Ind.; granddaughter, Megan (Ryan) Taylor of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother, Charles Hoppel of Fort Wayne; and sister, Charlotte Cox of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. and Lola Hoppel. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling one hour prior. The Rev Brenda Ginder officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Forest Park United Methodist Church.
