JOHN D. WILLETT JR., 91, died on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014. Born Jan. 1, 1923, in Hicksville, Ohio, he was a son of the late John Sr. and Bessie Willett. John worked at General Electric for 41 plus years. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 160 Roanoke and GE Quarter Century Club. John retired from the Roanoke Volunteer Fire Department after 20 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Doris Willett; children, Janet Willett, Jerry (Sara) Willett, Deborah Willett, and John Phillip Willett; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Marjorie Hobbs and Betty Burgner. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, at Covington Funeral Home, 8408 Covington Road, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at Covington Memorial Gardens.
