KATHERINE "KAY" WILDER WALTER, 101, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Parkview Hospital Randallia. She had been much loved by family and friends and had experienced a multitude of happy travel adventures. Born in Angola, Kay graduated from high school there as salutatorian and attended Indiana University in Bloomington. She married her first husband, Robert Wilt, in 1941 and came to Fort Wayne during his World War II military service. For 18 years, she worked in the office of the Pennsylvania Railroad, then moved to the Summit Bank (formerly People's Trust), retiring in 1977 as an internal auditor. A year later, her husband died. In 1985, she married Gordon Walter of Fort Wayne. She was a 50 year member of Plymouth Congregational Church, where she sang in the choir and played handbells. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega and Psi Iota Xi sororities, the PEO Sisterhood, and the Fort Wayne Woman's Club. An enthusiastic traveler, she had visited 40 countries and all 50 states. She is survived by her husband; seven Wilder nieces and nephews (to whom she was the beloved ever-caring aunt): nieces, Martha Johnsen of Longmont, Colo., Nancy (Terry) Curran of Indianapolis, Jan (Sydney) Oakland of Sandpoint, Idaho, Ann Wilder of Asheville, N.C.; and Mary Lynn (Alain) Moinet of Brussels, Belgium; and nephews, John Wilder of Lafayette, Ind. and Billi Wilder of Laguna Hills, Calif. She was also preceded in deathby her parents, Harry and Alice Wilder; and brothers, Leon Wilder and Richard Wilder. Memorial service is 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Plymouth Congregational Church UCC, 501 West Berry St., with the Rev. John P. Gardner officiating.
