LAYNE E. FREIMUTH, 78, of Hoagland, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 10:40 p.m., at his residence. Born March 23, 1935, in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Ralph Freimuth and Minnie (Prough) Freimuth. He married Rita A. Leeuw on Oct. 21, 1967, in Hoagland; she survives in Hoagland. Layne attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hessen Cassel, Fort Wayne. Layne enjoyed watching grandchildren compete in various sporting events. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being at the lake. Vacationing to Tennessee was important too, but most importantly, he was a fan of Indiana University; Indianapolis Colts and Chicago Cubs. Layne was an iron worker for Local 147 in Fort Wayne for 23 1/2 years, retiring in 1992. Following his employment as an iron worker, Layne was also employed by Scott's Foods of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are his daughters, Tamara (Tom) Hire of Fort Wayne and Laura Freimuth of Hoagland; sons, Jeff (Kristi) Freimuth of Fort Wayne and Gregg (Stephanie) Freimuth of Hoagland; brothers, Lyle (Dorothy) Freimuth of Waynedale and Ralph (Diane) Freimuth of Fort Wayne; sisters, Janice Freimuth of Waukesha, Wis. and Linda Dittel of Arizona; and five grandchildren, Austin, Ashtyn, Kyle, Ryan, and Luke Freimuth. Service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Molly Farthing officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial in Antioch Cemetery, Hoagland. Preferred memorials to Visiting Nurse Hospice Home or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
