MELVIN L. TSCHANNEN JR., 86, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, Melvin owned MT Builders and City Builders where he worked as a carpenter for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Eagles 3512 and American Legion. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a family man that enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing pool, and was a talented carpenter. He also spent time merchandising in the summers with friend Terry Kahr. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Carole Tschannen; daughters, Susan Tschannen, Kathy (Glen) Harpel, and Cheryl Tschannen; sons, Mark and John (Anita) Tschannen; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Boger and Ruth (Virgil) Smith, all of Fort Wayne; and brother, Robert (Joann) Tschannen of Orland. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin L. Sr. and Clara Tschannen; son, Ronald Tschannen; daughter, Debra Tschannen; and sister, Barb Speith. Service is 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1636 St. Mary's Avenue with calling one hour prior. Rev. Russell Dewell officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013 at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Burial in Riverview Cemetery.
