OLGA A. ABEL, 89, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Woodview Health Care Center, Fort Wayne. Born in Sharon, Pa., Olga worked as a music teacher at Valparaiso University, Concordia Lutheran High School and Redeemer Lutheran School, in Fort Wayne. She was also employed at Lutheran Hospital, as Nurses Choice Choir Director from 1944 to 1950. She was a graduate of Capital University Conservatory of Music, Columbus, Ohio in 1944; and Ohio State University in 1950 with a Masters in Music. Music was her life long passion and she was a very accomplished pianist. She began her musical career at an early age of 11, playing at various churches. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and had prepared many wonderful recipes. Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years, William "Bill" Abel of Fort Wayne; son, Scott L. (Brenda) Abel of Littleton, Colo.; sisters, Anne (Harold) Foelber of Fort Wayne, Irene Shestina of Rocky River, Ohio and Ruth (Merlin) Secrest of Pleasant City, Ohio; brother, George Hvizdak of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Brittany Abel and Luke Abel, both of Littleton Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Anna Hvizdak; and brothers, Lou and Jerry Hvizdak. Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 3425 Crescent Ave., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. Larry Merino officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Burial in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
