RALPH F. HINE, 105, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at 6:10 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. Ralph was a greens-keeper at Brook-wood Golf Course until his entry in the Army in 1942, where he served as a glider pilot with the 82nd airborne division in seven countries and earned two purple hearts and a bronze star for valor in battle. He then worked as foreman at Waynedale Lumber for 35 years, retiring in 1968. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, and enjoyed yard work and going to auctions. He was born Aug. 30, 1908 in Bulltown-Whitley County, a son of Lewis F. and Nora M. (Pequignot) Hine. On June 5, 1948 he married his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth M. Kaough in Fort Wayne and she survives in Fort Wayne. Also surviving are two sisters, Marcella Palmer and Helen (Leon) Guillaume both of Fort Wayne; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hine; and five sisters, Edna Saurer, Mary Zwick, Catherine Merrill, Louise Teusch and Christine McPearson. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke. Father Dale Bauman officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 at Roanoke Memorial Chapel of Deal-Rice Funeral Homes with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow service at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Roanoke.
