RHONDA J. DeVAUX, 67, a resident of Tijeras since 2009, died Sunday, July 20, 2014. Rhonda graduated from Purdue University with honors in 1969 and retired from Irvine Unified School District in 2009 as the School Nutrition Director after 16 years. Prior to that she was Director of School Food Services programs in La Habra, Calif; Greenwood, S.C.; New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School District, Ind.; and Wilmington, N.C. for a total of 33 years service managing school lunch programs. She was active in both state and national School Nutrition Associations (SNA) wherever she worked and was president of the California School Nutrition Association in 2005-2006. In 2008, she was named National Outstanding Director of the year by the national SNA as well as received numerous achievement awards over the years. After retirement, she became active in her church, Follow the Sun Bible clubs, the New Mexico school nutrition organizations and worked part-time for the state PED to implement the latest federal guidelines for school lunch programs. She is survived by her husband, Roger of Tijeras; sons, Randy (Angela) DeVaux of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Ryan DeVaux of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; grandchildren, Madison DeVaux and Meghan DeVaux, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; mother, Helen Nahrwold of Fort Wayne; sisters, Brenda Schuller of Woodburn, Ind. and Carol Nahrwold of Fort Wayne; and brother, John M. Nahrwold of New Haven, Ind. Service is 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 7710 E. State Blvd., Fort Wayne. Interment in St. Peters Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the or St. Peter's Lutheran Church building fund.
