LT. RICHARD NILES NORTON (ret), died on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at home with his family. He was born on Feb. 15, 1930 in Fort Wayne. He attended Central High School and graduated with the class of 1948. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country honorably through the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired in 1972 after 24 years of service. He was then employed by General Telephone and retired after 20 years of service. He met and married Wanda Lee Dorsey in 1951 in San Diego, Calif.. They had three children and traveled around the world during his service in the Navy. He enjoyed grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Jerry Norton (Elaine) of Fort Wayne; his son Richard A. Norton of Concord, Calif.; and his three grandchildren, Jessica Carey of Cincinnati, Ohio, Timothy Bodinka of Spencerville, and Zachary Norton of Concord, Calif.; as well as by his dear friend, Annette Carey of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Forrest and Anna Norton; his sister, Annabelle Zinc; and his daughters, Janet Bodinka and Rebeccca Norton. He will be greatly missed as a brother, father, grandfather and friend. A celebration of life for Dick is 1 p.m. Saturday June 2, 2012 at his home, with Navy Military honors at 2 p.m. All family and friends are invited to attend.
