ROBERT F. "RED" JOHNSON, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at Renaissance Village, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born Dec. 26, 1925, in Erie, Penn., he was the son of Fred and Selma Johnson. He attended Augustana College, Rock Island, Ill., where he was quarterback of the Augie Vikings. In his junior year of college, he met the love of his life, Mary Ellen Carlson. They were married on July 17, 1948. After his graduation, they returned to Erie where Red worked for Charles B. Padden & Son's Paint Company. After several years, he was offered the opportunity to be the distributor in Fort Wayne for Minnesota Paints (now Valspar). Red and Mary Ellen made the move to Fort Wayne and opened their family business, Decorators Supply Company, in 1952. Red was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church. He was also a past member of Rotary, Junto, Friars, and the Fort Wayne Country Club. He was a loyal supporter of Indiana University. He enjoyed a round of golf, a good hand of Gin Rummy, and great times with their many dear friends. After selling their business, he and Mary Ellen retired to Northern Michigan and spent 15 years "Up North" where they were avid downhill and cross country skiers. They made their way back to Fort Wayne to be closer to family. He is survived by his daughter, Ann (David) Bobilya of Fort Wayne; son, Michael (Karen) Johnson of Hartland, Wis.; grandchildren, Carrie (Kevin) Collins of Noblesville, Daniel (Rachel) Bobilya of Fort Wayne, Mark (Leigh) Bobilya of Carmel, Lesley Ann (Marc) Pfleging of Fishers, and Alec and Eric Johnson, both of Hartland, Wis.; and eight great-grandchildren.
