ROBERT SCHUBEL, 88, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013. Born in 1924 in Lansing, Mich., Robert and his wife Lillian retired to Port St. Lucie, Fla. in 1992 and resided at PGA Village where he enjoyed his life long passion of playing golf. He loved sports including college football and basketball, and always rooted for Michigan State. "Robert was a friend to everyone who knew him and always had time to sit and talk." He served in World War II and was a Bronze Star recipient. He began his working career selling office equipment in Lansing, Mich., then in Louisville, Ky. He started his own office equipment company in Fort Wayne in 1963. Through his hard efforts, he built it into a very successful organization, which later grew into Office Concepts, Inc. While in Fort Wayne, he and his wife attended North Christian Church, was a member and past president of Orchard Ridge Country Club, a member of the Mad Anthony's and the YMCA Athletic Club where he kept in top physical shape. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 63 years, Lillian; sons, Scott (JoAnn) Schubel of Vero Beach, Fla., and Rodney (Catherine) Schubel of Fort Pierce, Fla., two grandchildren, Lauren and Scott II; brother, Otto Schubel of Stuart, Fla.; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Arlene Volkert of Hudson, Mich. of Charlotte, N.C., and Miriam Dilloway of Greenville, S.C. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
