RUDOLPH J. BLACK SR., 77, of Ney, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, in the CHP Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. Born Oct. 3, 1935, in Monroe, Mich., he was the son of Andrew and Mary (Major) Black. Rudolph served his county in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Also known as the "the booty doctor," he worked for many years at the GM Powertrain until his retirement in October of 1993. Rudolph was a life member of the Defiance V.F.W. Post 33600, loved the outdoors, helping people and spending time with his four dogs and his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen (Craig) Black (whom he married on Dec. 7, 1955); three sons, Rudolph Black Jr. of Ney, Cory (Tammy) Black and Joshua (Jessica Perez) Black, all of Defiance; six daughters, Kim (Jimmy) Harrill of Madisonville, Tenn., Pam Black and Denise Young, both of Ney, Lori (Rick) Baldwin of Deltona, Fla., Michelle (Randy Rocholt) Headley of Hudson, Ind., and Julie (Dan Diamond) Black of Antwerp; 11 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; ejght sisters; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral service to celebrate his life is 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. Pastor Paul Ellis officiating. Calling is from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post 3360 will be in Poplar Ridge Cemetery.
