RUTH I. LEMMON, 85, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2013. Born in Evansville, Ind., Ruth began her work history during World War II when she was 16 by doing clerical work at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, Texas. At the end of the war, she met her future husband, James D. Lemmon at a New Year's Eve servicemen dance, they were married 12 days later. Ruth and James owned and operated a television and radio repair business for 40 years. She also worked for Belestran and then finished her work history at Magnavox (where her husband also worked), retiring with 25 years. She was a an active member of United Faith Presbyterian Church for over 30 years serving as a deaconess, Sunday school teacher and youth group advisor. She was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliaries for many years. She was also very active in her children's lives as a Girl Scout troop leader, Boy Scout leader and Den Mother, 4-H leader and Classroom parent. She loved crocheting and had made over 100 afghans in her lifetime. She was also a seamstress and had taken tailoring classes. Ruth enjoyed dancing, reading and bowling. Loved flowers, especially roses and delphiniums. Most importantly, she loved the Lord and her family. Surviving are her son, James R. (Barb) Lemmon; daughters, Jeanette (Allen Sr.) Lauer and Rhonda (Keith) Berkemeier; daughter-in-law, Karen Lemmon; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D., in 2010; son, Michael on April 15, 2013; three brothers, Robert, Ernest and Ralph Berkemeier; a grandson in 1982; and parents, Emil P. and Lenora Berkemeier. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, at United Faith Presbyterian Church (Bethany-Westfield), 1616 West Main St., with calling one hour prior. Dr. Hal Thomas officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery.
