SUZANNE M. McKEEFER, 86, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Visiting Nurse, Fort Wayne. Suzanne loved her sisters, a good laugh, family get togethers, antiques, and creating poems for each family member's birthday. Born in Fort Wayne, Suzanne was a graduate of North Side High School and a Sergeant in the Women's Army Corps, serving at the Pentagon during the Korean Conflict. She worked in the intelligence department war room drafting daily troop movement maps. She proudly held the position of head of the drafting section at West Point, being one of the first female officers to work at West Point. She was honored to pose for a commemorative U.S. Postal Stamp depicting women in the four branches of the service, issued in 1952. Her graphic arts talent then led her to positions in Texas, Michigan, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne where she was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church. Surviving are her twin sister, Joanne R. McKeefer of Fort Wayne; sister, Doris J. Barton of Fort Wayne; nieces, Diane J. Barton and Lynne E. (Michael R.) Westerman, both of Fort Wayne; great nephew, Jason (Amber) Westerman of Fort Wayne; great-great niece, Sophie Westerman; and great niece, Kyla Westerman of Fort Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph E. and Viola E. (Lantz) McKeefer. Service is 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, in the Bohn Chapel at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 W. Main St., with calling from 10:30 to 11 a.m. The Rev. Forrest Van Gundy officiating. Burial to follow service in the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse. Arrangements by D. O.
