THOMAS C. SMALL, 77, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. He was born Nov. 14, 1936 and in 1955, enlisted in the Navy and graduated from South Side High School. He enjoyed his many years of employment at Ivy Tech State College, bowling, singing in the church choir and barbershop quartets, playing cards and being with his grandchildren. On his 60th birthday, he retired as a Navy Chief after 41 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Ruth; his five children, David, Steve, Phill, Jim, and Debi (Javier) De Jesus; stepdaughter, Heidi (Dan) Trumbull; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; also surviving are his mother, Pauline Laughlin; brothers, Doug (Lisa) and Lenny Laughlin; big 'Sis' Nancy (Dennis) Klopfenstein; and his first wife, friend, and mother of his children, Nancy Small. He was preceded in death by his father, Colen Small; and stepfather, Alonzo Laughlin. "Tom will be remembered for his beautiful voice, delightful sense of humor, and eagerness to help others." Memorial service is 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at Broadway Christian Church, 910 Broadway, Fort Wayne, with calling from 9 to 11 a.m. prior. Preferred memorials are to the Broadway Christian Church Inasmuch Ministry.
