WALTER JOSEPH "WALLY" METTER JR., 64, of Vermilion, Ohio, died on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, in Fort Wayne, after a sudden illness. He was born on May 5, 1948, in Cleveland, Ohio. He had been a Vermilion resident since the 1970's and had lived in Cleveland, Strongsville, North Ridgeville, Elyria, and Lorain. He was a police officer for the Vermilion Police Department. He was a member of Harbourtown Community Church. He later volunteered as a chaplain for the fire and police departments. He helped supervise Youth Alive, a Bible Study group for junior high school and high school students. He organized Pastor of the Day for students to eat lunch with area pastors. He preached at local nursing homes and helped families at Ground Zero as part of the American Red Cross. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, was a member of the Wart Hogs and loved being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Christy M. (Dan) Shupe of Vermilion and Lori A. (Robert) Lloyd of Vermilion; son, Walter J. (Joy) Metter III of Fort Wayne; and grandchildren, David, Sierra, Shelby, Dylann, Katie, Mike, Sam, and Ted. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Christy and Janet Metter; and parents, Walter J. and Irene (nee. Marshall) Metter Sr. Private graveside services will be held at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery.
