WILLIAM EDWARD DeWERT, 76, of Fort Wayne, died on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, 2:42 a.m., at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Born Nov 21, 1937, in Ohio, he was a son of the late William E. DeWert and Joyce (Wiley) DeWert - Lennington. Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, being discharged in 1966 after attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a member National Rifle Association (NRA); American Legion Post 82, Fort Wayne; V.F.W. Posts in Churubusco, Waynedale, and Monroeville; U.S. Marine Corps League; New Haven Navy Club; Allen County S.P.C.A.; DeKalb Humane Society; and Allen County Humane Society. He was a self employed real estate broker and antique dealer. Surviving are his son, William L. DeWert of Huntertown, Ind.; daughters, Faith Ann (Matthew) Webb of Fort Wayne and Hope Angela Sheets and Auburn; sister, Annette Witte of Fort Wayne; and four grandchildren, Jessica DeWert, Grant Webb, Jack Webb, and Brook Webb. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard David DeWert and Arthur DeWert; and sister, Francis Lare. Service is 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, 111 South Water St., Monroeville, with visitation two hours prior. Burial in Monroeville Memorial Cemetery, Monroeville, with Military graveside services will be conducted by the American Legion Post 420 of Monroeville. Preferred memorials to Allen County S.P.C.A.
