WILLIAM ROBERT "BOB" STROUP, 95, of Eaton Rapids, Mich., and formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013. Bob was born in Tipton County, Ind. on Sept. 30, 1917 the son of William and Zola (Nixon) Stroup. He married Margaret Jane Nixon on Sept.3, 1939. He graduated from Indiana University School of Business in 1939 and retired as a loan officer with Chase Bank (formerly Indiana National Bank). He was a philanthropist to missionary and seminary students. He was a Gideon and ministered to the homeless at the Wheeler Rescue Mission in Indianapolis, Ind. He was a trustee on the United Methodist Conference Board of Missions. During his lifetime he traveled the world with his wife Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Jane Stroup; son, Steve (Lisa) Stroup of San Diego, Calif.; daughters, Joyce (John) Gehres of Bowling Green, Ohio, Carol (Dennis) Buwalda of Eaton Rapids, Mich.; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother, James (Charlotte) Stroup of Tipton, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Violet Van Bibber. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Monday, July 29, 2013 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, Mich., with calling one hour prior. Rev. Dr. Herb Buwalda Jr., Rev. Dr. Steve Connor, and Rev. Dennis Buwalda officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.
