Betty Jean LorenzPORTSMOUTH – Betty Jean Lorenz, 71, of Portsmouth, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was born on December 25, 1941 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, a daughter of William M. and Elizabeth S. (Philpott) Shelton and attended Portsmouth Schools.
She was a member and past officer of both the Frank E. Booma Unit 6, American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Portsmouth and the Emerson Hovey Post 168, VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Portsmouth, bartending at both locations for many years. Betty was also a life member of the VFW National Home for Children.
Betty enjoyed knitting, playing BINGO and loved her family.
A daughter, Penny Lynn St.Laurent, predeceased her.
Survivors include: her husband of 24 years, John A. Lorenz of Portsmouth; sons, William Nichols and his wife, Cathy of Kittery, ME, Robert States and his wife, Sherry of Rochester, and Michael Nichols of Kittery, ME; a daughter, Wendy-Sue Nichols of Haverhill, MA; a stepson, Jeff Lorenz of Portsmouth and stepdaughter, Angela Lorenz of South Berwick, ME; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Shelton and his wife, Hazel of Barrington; and two nieces.
Services: A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7PM,with American Legion and VFW services preceding the visitation at 4:45PM, on Monday, April 8, 2013 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth. Graveside services at the NH State Veterans Cemetery will be held privately. Family flowers only.
