Francis J. Menez

SOMERSWORTH - Francis J. Menez, Age 81, of Somersworth, died on January 31, 2014 at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on July 19th, 1932. He was the son of Louise (Gallini) Menez, and Francis Menez. He joined the Air Force at a young age and served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. While stationed in England, he met his wife of 54 years. They settled in Dover after his retirement in 1974. He received his BA from Nathaniel Hawthorne College. He served on various committees and boards such as the Dover School Board, the Dover and Somersworth Zoning Board, the Dover Citizen Advisory Board, and the Dover Adult Learning Center. He was instrumental in preserving the Garrison Hill Tower as its first secretary. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a Mason for over 50 years and belonged to the Moses Paul Lodge #96 in Dover. He leaves behind his wife, Joan, his son Frank, a daughter Susan Murray of Texas and 3 granddaughters, Felicia, Rachel, and Melanie Murray, and his brother Marc Moniz of California.

A memorial with military honors will take place at Madbury Cemetery at a later date.
