NORTH HAMPTON - John Patrick "Jack" Begley, Jr., 89, passed away July 15th 2014, at his North Hampton home, in the company of his family.

Jack was born in Lawrence, Mass., attended Lawrence High School and was a graduate of Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. He was a veteran of WW II serving with the U.S. Army in the infantry and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Service Star.

He retired as vice president from the Bank of New England and also worked as tax collector for the town of Methuen and in his retirement in North Hampton.

Jack was an avid golfer and tennis player, an excellent bridge partner, a true Boston sports fan and a lover of American history. He is remembered as always reading two to three nonfiction books at once while being current on local, national and global affairs. A true gentleman of class and grace, Jack was happiest laughing and conversing and dining with his family. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wonderful wife of 60 years, Barbara (Burke) Begley, his children, Jody North of Hampton, Martha Jo of Waltham Mass., Jack of Pelham, Jean North of Hampton, Sandy and her husband Dan Duvall of Durham, Peter and his wife Lisa of Fremont; his grandchildren, Dan Jr., Tom, Audrey, Corey, Rebecca, and his faithful dog KC.

Friends and family are invited to an open house and remembrance at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2014, at the Begley residence, 9 Appledore Avenue, North Hampton.
