Michael "Meho" D. Sharples

Newmarket - Michael "Meho" D. Sharples, 70, of Lamprey River Park, died February 16, 2014 at his home in the presence of family and friends.

Born August 30, 1943 in Exeter, he was the son of Wilbur "Rusty" T. and Helen (Olszanowski) Sharples. He was a lifelong resident of Newmarket.

In 1993 he retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard with 25 years service. He was a Planning & Estimating Supervisor.

He was a 28 year Life Member of the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 67 in Newmarket and was Past Squadron Commander, and was Past Detachment Commander. Currently he was Squadron and Detachment Chaplain.

Mike was a 40 year life member of the Dover Lodge of Elks #184 BPOE, and was a life member of the American Citizens Club of Polish Descent.

At one time he was a special duty police officer and a volunteer in the Newmarket Fire Department.

Mike enjoyed playing cards, golf, playing his bongo drums, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Rochelle (Gingras) Sharples of Newmarket; three children, Patrick McLean and his fiance' Debbi Tatro of TN, Shaun Sharples of Portsmouth, and Kellie Moore and her husband Brian of FL; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; five siblings, Connie Murphy of Haverhill, MA, Theodore Sharples and his wife Joyce of VA, Shelly Gingras and her husband Rene of Strafford, Philip Sharples and his spouse Daina Anderson of Barrington, and Lisa Crowder of Del; daughter-in-law, Robin Lemieux of Portsmouth; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and many good friends.

A Graveside Committal Service will be conducted by The Sons of the American Legion, on Saturday, May 3 at 11 a.m. in Calvary Cemetery, Exeter Road, Newmarket. Family & friends are invited.
