KITTERY POINT, Maine - Ramon Ellsworth Hamel, 86, of Kittery Point, Maine, died at Kennebunk Nursing Home on March 14, 2013. He was born in Grafton, Massachusetts on January 26, 1927, the son of Cyrille L. and Edith Hamel.
Ramon served his country in the Navy during World War II. He worked at Bath Iron Works as an insulator, and later at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 21 years.
Ramon had a strong religious faith and read his Bible daily. He enjoyed playing horse shoes, fishing, baseball and a good meal out.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Margie (Newell) Hamel, his sons; Ramon E Jr. and his wife Nancy of Kittery, and Jon K Hamel of Kittery Point, daughters: Pamela McCaffery of Somersworth, and Cynthia Kimball and her husband Ed of Dover, sister Delores Nolette and her husband Leo of Wells, Maine as well as 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Dennis M. Hamel and 3 brothers.
The Hamel family wishes to thank Deacon Richard Voltz and his wife Chiyoko for their services, and the U.S. Navy Military Honors team.
Arrangements for the Hamel family were entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
