PORTSMOUTH - Robert H. Bascom, 88, of Portsmouth, passed away, September 11, 2013 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
He was born in Dover, New Hampshire, on June 25, 1925, the son of the late Elmer J. and Edith (White) Bascom and attended Portsmouth Schools.
Robert was an Electrical Engineer Technician at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1980 and was the Building Manager for the Worth Development Corporation retiring after 30 years.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater.
Robert was a member of St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth; Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Portsmouth and Dover; N.H. Consistory 32 degree of Nashua; Bektash Shrine of Concord; and the D.A.V.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Gertrude "Trudi" (Berry) Bascom; two daughters, Constance Holmes and Michele Theriault; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; two sister-in-laws, Helen Anania of Dover and Madeline Berube of Portsmouth; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad Street, Portsmouth with Masonic services at 1:45 p.m. by St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM. Family flowers only.
