Florence Bruchey Obituary
Florence Elizabeth (Leatherman) Bruchey entered her eternal life on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, from complications with pancreatic cancer. She was a long time resident of Johnsville, MD, and for the past 6 months lived in Mt. Airy, MD. Florence was the oldest daughter of Ella (Leatherman) Ecker. She was born near Libertytown, Frederick County, MD, on April 4, 1927. On August 6, 1948, she was united in marriage with Robert Eugene Bruchey, Sr., and was blessed with 4 children. Florence spent her life as a mother and homemaker until the death of her husband in 1972. She was then employed as the Project Lead for the housekeeping staff of the Frederick Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1992. Florence was a member of the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, and attended the Tuesday morning Bible Study classes. She was an avid traveler, always ready for a road trip, and enjoyed visiting the different states with a goal of seeing all 50. Florence was an active member of the Frederick Women of the Moose Chapter 347 where she held several leadership positions. She enjoyed gardening, loved her flowers--above all, family and friends were Florence's love and joy. She was preceded in death by her mother; her husband; her oldest son, Robert, Jr.; and one brother, Leroy Ecker. She leaves to mourn her departure two daughters, Vivian Lawler (David) and Ella McNeil; one son, Charles (Chris); daughter-in-law Linda Bruchey; seven grandchildren-Diane Barnes (Steven), Brenda Seiss (John), Melanie Lawler, Mary Wilkerson (Steven), Linda Louk, Lisa-Ann McNeil (Stephen McJonathan), and Carrie Bruchey; and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mary Stull, and three brothers: Charles Ecker, Richard Ecker (Rosie), and Kermit Ecker (Kay), and an extended family of relatives and friends from every walk of life. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, at Hartzler Funeral Home, 11802 Liberty Road, Libertytown, MD. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, at Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, near Mount Airy, with Pastor Greg Quintrell, church pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Beaver Dam Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Locust Grove Church of the Brethren, 13356 Glissans Mill Road, Mount Airy, MD 21771. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hartzlerfuneralhome.com.
