James T. Hungerford Obituary
Sgt. James Thomas Hungerford, Jr., 83, of Westover, Maryland, passed away at P.R.M.C., Sunday, November 24, 2013.

Born August 12, 1930 in Frederick, MD, he was the eldest son of the late James Thomas Hungerford, Sr. and the late Earva F. Mathias Hungerford.

He proudly served in the Army as a tank driver on the front lines in Korea, earning the rank of Sgt.

Following his military service, he began a career that was to last 65 years, owning and operating saw mills. He and two of his brothers, Roger and Remus, started their first saw mill, trading as "Hungerford Brothers". In 1978 he relocated to the eastern shore where he continued his passion for the lumber industry by establishing the Hungerford Saw Mill in Westover, eventually working with two of his sons, James and Joseph.

He is survived by his wife of 59 1/2 years, Thelma E. Kidwell Hungerford; one daughter, Rose Ann; four sons, Gordon, Edwin, James, and Joseph Hungerford; two brothers, Remus Hungerford and Charles Hungerford; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Lou Herbertson and two brothers, William Roger Hungerford and Allen Benjamin Hungerford.

A memorial service, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 30, 2013, at the Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church, 208 Market St., Pocomoke City, MD where family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service.

The family suggests donations to the Richard Henson Cancer Center, 100 E. Carroll St., Salisbury, MD 21801 or to the Pitts Creek Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 208 Market Street, Pocomoke City, MD 21851.
