Mr. John David Sims, Sr., 73, of Thurmont, passed away from Merkel cell carcinoma at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center on March 28, 2013, under the care of Hospice of Frederick County. He was the husband of Armatha Sims, his wife of 24 years.|
Born December 5, 1939, in Cherrydale, Virginia, he was the son of the late Rochester and Thelma Sims.
John graduated from Alderson High School in Alderson, WV, in 1960 and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for several electronics suppliers in the Washington, DC, and Frederick area. He loved playing the lottery and bowling, and was active on several bowling teams at Terrace Lanes in Frederick.
In addition to his loving wife, Mr. Sims is survived by two sons, John David Sims, Jr. of Frederick, the Rev. Timothy Lee Sims and wife Jahnet of Thailand; three grandchildren, Hannah Sims, Ahleah Sims and Ashton Sims; stepchildren Robin Young and Montgomery Craver and wife Cindy; a niece; several stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and many cousins, friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Sims; a sister, Mae Marie Sims; a stepson, Ronald Lee Craver; and a nephew, Earl Sims, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Chapel Mausoleum of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, 9501 U.S. 15 N in Frederick, where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2. The Rev. Gary Hubble will officiate.
