Portia Lyon Hutton passed away at home, in her sleep, on Saturday, December 8, 2012. She was the wife of Wally Hutton, attorney, and former Frederick County Commissioner, and member of the Maryland House of Delegates. They'd been married for over 59 years.|
Portia was a graduate of Indiana University, majoring in bacteriology and minoring in chemistry. She initially worked at Eli Lilly, and later became a substitute teacher at TJ High School. In 1989, she became a licensed cer- tified public accountant, and finished her career at the Maryland State Department of Education.
She served in a variety of organizations, including the Business and ProfessionalWomen's organization, Kid's Inc., and as an officer in the United Way of Frederick County, Inc. She was a member of the United Church of Christ of Annapolis.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two children: Brock Hutton of Linthicum and Shane Hutton of Frederick; two grandchildren (graduates of Gov. Thomas High School): Shaun, employed at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, and Sharon, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Wofford College.
A memorial service is planned forThursday, December 13, at 11 AM at The United Church of Christ of Annapolis, 8 Carvel Circle, Edgewater, MD 21037.
